Wood Whitening: Give Your House a New Life
Even those who are not involved in the construction business know that wood remains one of the most popular construction materials nowadays. Its popularity on the modern construction market is quite evident and explainable – wood is a natural material and posses a lot of positive features: durability, low weight, and, undoubtedly, positive influence on human body and warm 'living' structure. But in the same time wood is a part of environmental system and its decay is caused basically by natural, or, to be more exact, climatic conditions like UV-radiation and microorganisms and insects impact.
UV radiation: fading, loss of natural color, yellowing:
The color of wood located outdoors is changing radically and quickly. The sun rays cause photochemical reaction on the wood surface that results in wood surface deterioration and loss of natural color. Natural wood color can get grey or yellow brown hue under the influence of the sun. In warm and sunny conditions this effect can be observed in just several months.
Fungus: coloring (blue stains) and biological decay (dote, mold):
Fungus needs very little to grow. All it basically needs is some moisture. Fungus is quite resistant and can easily adapt almost to any conditions. Wood-coloring fungus give it blue-grayish color called blue stains, though in some cases brown, yellow or pink hues can also be observed. Initially blue stains do not destroy wood but change its color only. But one should remember that they create a growth medium for wood destroying fungus that finally results in wood constructions weakening.
